Skyla Spencer
Armed Forces Entertainment takes country crooner on 1st overseas tour

Country music singer, songwriter, and entertainer Skyla Spencer and her band, the Nashville Navigate-hers, will captivate U.S. troops in the Pacific with their swinging, upbeat sound Nov. 29 - Dec. 21, when they perform at bases in Guam, Japan, Singapore, and Diego Garcia.

Spencer, a West Virginia native, released her first album, You Said You'd Call Me, in 2005, which features 11 tracks she wrote and produced. Spencer dedicated the album to all the people she has lost in her life and to all the U.S. troops who have died fighting for our country. The title track, which was released nationwide to radio on October 2005, has enjoyed a wide audience due to its down-home attitude and catchy chorus. Another single from the album, "One More Chance," was released nationwide in July 2006. Spencer's album also includes the single "If I Were Rain," a dedication to U.S. soldiers serving overseas. It was used as a soundtrack for the 9-11 documentary, "Moving On From 9-11," which premiered in New York City in May 2006.

"'If I Were Rain' is a song that sends a powerful message that, in times of trouble, everyone needs to pray for each other," said Spencer. "It talks about how to address the troubles we are currently facing and it's a tribute to all of our soldiers who are so bravely representing our country overseas."

Spencer emphasized that the band will put on a show that will not soon be forgotten. "As a performer, I love to involve the crowd, and I feel connecting with the audience is very important. High energy, dancing, and crowd involvement are key components in my shows." Spencer has an extensive dance background, and she choreographs dance numbers in her show herself. “Skyla has a powerful stage presence that she utilizes to perform a broad range of country music songs creating a fully developed show for a diverse audience,” said Air Force Captain A. Semrau, Armed Forces Entertainment Pacific circuit manager. “Her musical talent is captivating. This will be a show the troops will not soon forget.”

Several businesses have shown support by donating items for Skyla to wear during her show and on tour. Boots Etc. in Commerce, GA, donated a pair of Tony Lama boots. WJJC Radio out of Commerce, GA presented Skyla with a camouflage cowboy hat. Flavour, the trendy boutique many of the stars shop at in downtown Nashville, donated to Skyla some comfortable sweats.
