Digital Rodeo

Singer/songwriter, dancer and entertainer, being in front of a crowd and on stage is where Skyla feels most comfortable. Presently she is working on her sophomore country album. Skyla's first single from this album, "This Girl", debut on the Music Row charts in Dec. 2009. She was honored to be nominated for Breakthrough Artist of 2009 for the New Music Weekly Awards. Skyla grew up in the hills of West Virginia about 30 minutes from Buckhannon. She was always surrounded by music growing up. From hearing her grandmother play the piano and singing at church, to family gatherings around summer camp fires. Singing, and music was instilled in her from an early age. She was always performing. Singing, dancing, cheerleading, gymnastics, figure-skating, writing songs etc. Skyla loved being on stage. She took her experiences a step further in college and studied dance at WVU and Monterey, CA. She has a BA in Liberal Arts-Dance, BA in Psychology, and an AA in Dance.

Presently Skyla works at the World Famous Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN teaching line-dance. “It is a fun job and I love it", says Skyla!! I meet people from all over the world." When Skyla is not on the road singing you can catch her at the Wildhorse hosting and entertaining guests.

Band Interests

Below read Skyla Spencer’s answers to Digital Rodeo's "Inquiring Minds Want To Know" questions:

  1. In the last year what is the one thing you accomplished you were surprised by?

I always wanted to write a book one day, and I finally did. I have been dividing my time between music, dance, acting, and writing books. I have taken the last couple of years to really write, dig even deeper, and re-discover myself.  I have been honing in on what I really want to say to the world when it comes to music and writing books for children.

I signed a book publishing deal with DonnaInk Publications in Orlando, FL, and have a children book series releasing to stores, and online stores soon. My first children’s book, (with three- song cd), is titled, “Skyla’s Hat Adventure” coming out very soon.  It is available now to pre-order at

The story is about a young girl discovering her Grandma’s hats. Each hat she tries on takes her to different places. She travels the world learning about different cultures, occupations, and about herself. A person wears many hats in their life and this is the message I want to send. You can be successful at more than one thing. I want to inspire children all over the world to chase all their dreams. The first story takes you to the heart of Music City, Nashville, TN. She visits the Grand Ole Opry.

The story is also based upon some memories of my Grandma. She loved wearing hats as I do, and this is a tribute to her. I know she is looking down on me from heaven with a big smile.

  1. In the upcoming year what are your top three goals musically that you want to accomplish?

A New EP or album later this year, Radio release in top 10, and a music video.

Starbucks, & a Gigi cupcake.

I would like to do more acting roles in film, TV, and commercials. I also have an entertainment show, showcasing music and dance that I have been developing & working on. I would like to get this on a network ”Steppin’ Up With Skyla” is the name. I also want to develop my own hat line.

  1. Who would be your “dream artist” to do an opening act for and why?

Wow, this is so hard to choose. Going with my home state. The very talented -Brad Paisley. He is from WV as well. He is gifted songwriter. I would love to co-write with him someday.

When not traveling doing shows, I work teaching line dancing and hosting at the World Famous Wildhorse Saloon. I don’t really have much downtime with work, music, and writing books. 1. What is at the top of your bucket list besides music?

To create, produce, and have my own Entertainment TV show.
